EFF postpones core meeting again
THE EFF woes in the Eastern Cape continue as the party’s national leadership has for the second time failed to hold its people’s general assemblies (PGA) meeting to appoint an interim structure.
The meeting that was to be convened at Orient Theatre in East London at the weekend, was shelved at the eleventh hour.
The PGA was initially planned to be convened a week ago.
Speaking to the Daily Dispatch at the weekend, the party’s deputy president Floyd Shivambu confirmed that the party leaders had decided to postpone the PGA again.
“Yes, the PGA was postponed. However, we did not cancel it; we will convene it at a later stage.”
Shivambu, however, did not state reasons for the second postponement. In a letter seen by the Dispatch, dated September 22, sent by EFF secretary general Godrich Gardee to regional and provincial leaders, Gardee also does not provide reasons for the postponement.
“The provincial general assembly scheduled for September 24, has been postponed and the date will be communicated in due cause,” part of the letter reads.
In a statement released last week, EFF acting spokesman Fana Mokoena said that the war council [national structure] had finalised the interim leadership cores teams to be deployed in the province and they will be formally introduced to the provincial and regional leaders.
This comes after the central command team announced the disbandment of both the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal provincial and regional command teams at the beginning of this month.
The Siya Dinga Peter-led provincial command team is not the first to be disbanded by the party. After its former provincial chairman, Themba Wele, fell out of favour with the party, the party appointed an interim structure led by Vuyisile Schoeman and Simcelile Rubela.
The interim structure was later also disbanded, when the CCT sent Mlungisi Rapolile on a fact-finding mission to the province.
The newly established interim structures will have the responsibility of building the party in the two provinces. They will be monitoring the processes of convening regional and provincial people’s assemblies.
Party president Julius Malema will be hands-on in the rebuilding processes after the party relieved him of all parliamentary committee work to rather be involved with the party’s structures across the country. —
