Murder accused ‘woken by gunshots outside his home’

-

POLICE are investigating charges of discharging a firearm in public and malicious damage to property after Masibonge Mnyanda said he escaped unharmed when gunmen opened fire on him at his Tsolo home this week.

Mnyanda, 29, is one of the accused in the murder case of ANC OR Tambo regional chairman Xolile Nkompela’s driver and bodyguard Zukile Nyontso.

Police would not say whether the charges related to Nyontso’s killing or not.

Yesterday, Mthatha police spokeswoman Dineo Koena said no arrest has been made yet.

“Police are investigating a case of discharging a firearm in public and malicious damage to property,” she said.

Mnyanda told the Daily Dispatch he had been woken up by gunshots shortly before 10pm on Tuesday night at his home in Bene village, Tsolo.

When he looked outside to check where the gunshots had come from, he could not see anything or anyone.

He said he did not know what the motive could be.— Mkhululi Ndamase
