Mayor set to take legal action against axed municipal boss
BUFFALO City Metro executive mayor Xola Pakati is expected to file a complaint with police against the city’s axed municipal manager Andile Fani next week.
This follows Fani’s dismissal with immediate effect on Wednesday.
During a media address yesterday morning, Pakati said the metro was working closely with National Treasury on the case against Fani.
He said Treasury had already recommended that the metro take this “course of action” against Fani.
Fani was found guilty earlier this month by an internal disciplinary committee of illegally appointing a Cape Town-based construction company to build houses in Reeston and supply top structures at a cost of R74-million.
“Now that the process [of firing him] is concluded, the process of replacing him will be undertaken.
“There is now a vacancy for a municipal manager as a result of that resolution, [and] advertising will be [done, followed by the] process of interviews,” Pakati said.
“We have to prepare ourselves legally.
“We must have all our acts together as an institution so that next week we should open a case of contravention of the Municipal Financial Management Act.” —
