Berlin November keeps growing

- By ROSS ROCHE

THE third annual Berlin November Horse Racing event is back on the horizon as the popular and ever growing extravaganza continues to improve on its previous showing.

The action is all set to take place on November 26 and starting from humble beginnings it is fast becoming a highlight on the national calendar.

“The event has grown tremendously from what it was, from all sides,” said Berlin November founder, Luthando Bara.

“We started this event with the aim to convert traditional horse racing from what was clearly a socio-cultural event into what is a lifestyle event, and it has been monetised so that it can benefit everyone involved directly.

“It has grown into being a national event with revellers and participants coming from all over the country to take part and experience it.”

The event includes 12 thrilling horse races with some of the province’s best jockeys battling it out.

Live bands, DJs, celebrities, fashion parade, big screens, a craft and business village with food courts and children’s play facilities all contribute to ensuring this is so much more than just a horse racing event.

However, the main focus is the racing itself, and over 240 cross and thoroughbred horses will participate from all nine districts of the Eastern Cape, and from the provinces of Kwa Zulu-Natal, North West, Northern Cape and also Lesotho.

“Every year we are looking to add to the event and include more provinces,,” said Bara.

“This event also is a massive boost to the local economy, and I believe with events like this we can take tourism to new heights in the region.”

With around 15 000 people enjoying the event in a variety of stylish corporate, private and car park style marquees and relaxed general viewing areas, it is definitely not an event to be missed.

There are hospitality and ticket options to suit everyone, ranging from free to R1 500.
