Camp on a quest to find new trailblazer

- By ZINGISA MVUMVU MESSAGES

ONE of the beneficiaries of the Trailblazers National Youth Camp, Sinalo Nomvete is proof that the annual event is a fruitful project.

The five-year-old annual event starts at Port Alfred today and is due to wrap up on Thursday.

The young lad from Butterworth was one of the participants just last year.

But because he went back to his community to impart the skills he had acquired last year, he is back as one of the stewards this time around.

Nomvete praised the NYC as a useful project that developed him into a leader he never thought he was.

This year, as a steward whose duty it is to be responsible for the participants, he is looking forward to imparting the knowledge to the next generation of Trailblazers.

Nomvete said: “Being a participant in the Trailblazers National Youth Camp last year opened my mind to many things I never thought I would do.

“From the skills I learnt I went on to become a better leader and that is evident in the work I do in my community. to contribute to the wellbeing of each and everyone. I prepare myself mentally and physically for my future through learning, remembering and implementing the

“This time I am here to impart those skills to others so that we become better leaders in our communities as young people, a primary objective of this event.”

Nomvete helps out other youth in schools around Butterworth, thanks to his participation in the NYC last year.

He believes the initiative is critical as among other things it bridges the gap that exists between the disadvantaged in rural areas and the privileged residing in urban areas. “Rural youth are not exposed to many things that can unleash their potential and it is my belief that the youth camp goes a long way in closing this gap.”

The 24-year-old encouraged this year’s participants to learn as much as they could.

But what was going to be meaningful would be for them to spread the gospel when they return to their communities post the camp.

“Passing skills on is vital in that it helps make this initiative meaningful for generations because what would be the use if one gains such crucial skills and not pass it on?”

Nomvete expects all participants this year to maintain the of discipline expected of future leaders. lessons of the Youth Camp.
