Top Music Awards promises glitzy affair despite date change

- By POLISWA PLAATJIE

POSTPONEMENT of the second annual Eastern Cape Music Awards (ECMAs) has been blamed on logistics. Scheduled for later this month, the awards are now set down for November 19, said founder Koko Godlo.

Godlo said: “Due to logistical matters beyond our control, and to ensure that we bring you nothing less than a spectacular occasion filled with the glitz and glamour that you have come to expect, it has become necessary to move this event to a later date.” Godlo apologised for any inconvenience.

The event is a celebration of the musical talent of Eastern Cape bornandstars.

While Godlo would not get into detail about the logistics, he said when they chose the date they did not realise that there were a number of events already taking place, which included the South African Traditional Music Awards to be held in UniZulu’s King Bhekuzulu Hall in eMpangeni in KwaZulu-Natal.

“Some of the artists that we have featured on our awards are national artists who will be attending the Satmas and we don’t want to disappoint our people. Moving the date will allow those personalities to be able to come to the event,” he said.

Popular television soapie actress, Lusanda Mbane, aka Boniswa, who stars in e.tv’s Scandal and SABC1 Nyan’ Nyan presenter, Luyanda Potwana, will host the awards.

Last year the inaugural event experienced some glitches with poor stage lighting and sound, but Godlo is confident that this year’s event will be better and bigger than the first one.

“The nominees list is the same and we will have the event at the Abbotsford Christian Centre,” he said.

Voting lines would close on November 17. To vote for your favourite artist, simply send an SMS to the category and name of artist or group to 33459. —
