Severe weather to hit SA
THE South African Weather Service has issued warnings for severe thunderstorms in parts of Gauteng‚ the North West‚ Mpumalanga and the Free State.
According to forecaster Wayne Venter‚ this week’s thunderstorms mark the start of the summer rainy season.
Rainfall expected this summer will likely not be enough to break the country’s drought‚ however.
According to Venter‚ rainfall is expected to return to usual weather patterns now that the effects of El Nino have subsided.
This week’s thunderstorms are expected to dissolve by Wednesday‚ but may return on the following weekend‚ Venter said.
