Chippa to put changes to test

- By VUYOKAZI NKANJENI

CHIPPA United coach Dan “Dance” Malesela maintains the international break was good for his team but the real test will come when he tests his new formations and player positions today.

The Port Elizabeth side play Cape Town City in a Premier Soccer League fixture at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium this afternoon (3.30pm).

The match will be the perfect opportunity to see if the new formula that Melesela has introduced will be efficient enough to get Chippa back to their winning ways.

The Chilli Boys have been without a win in four of their previous league games, with their most recent result being a 1-0 defeat to Bidvest Wits. Chippa have only managed to get two points from a possible 12 from their previous fixtures.

The last time Malesela’s troops tasted victory was last month when they beat Baroka 4-1.

Earlier in the week, Chippa skipper James Okwuaso said victory today is vital to win back the hearts of the fans.

But most importantly the players need the win to boost their morale.

The Chilli Boys will also be looking to retain their unbeaten run at home when they host the Cape Town side.

Chippa have not lost a game at home in three league matches played, collecting five points from two draws and a win.

Meanwhile, the visitors will go into the game oozing confidence after two consecutive wins over league defending champs Mamelodi Sundowns and a recent 1-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic in their last league game.

City will be out to extend their win ratio today and are currently fifth on the log with 14 points from eight games.

The sides will be meeting for the first time in the league.
