Patosi forced to train on his own

- By NICK SAID

AYANDA Patosi was forced to train on his own this week at Belgian side Lokeren after arriving back late from international South Africa.

Patosi reportedly had a problem with his visa for reentry into Belgium after duty with playing for Bafana Bafana in their 1-1 draw against Mozambique in Maputo last Tuesday.

He did not feature at all for Lokeren last weekend and his coach‚ Icelander Rúnar Kristinsson‚ wants him to now work on his own away from the main group.

Patosi is now in his sixth season with Lokeren but has not enjoyed a successful campaign to date as the club has struggled near the foot of the table.

He has been in and out of the side‚ making only six starts in the 15 matches the club has played in the league this season‚ and has yet to find the back of the net.

It has reignited the debate in Belgium over whether this will be his final season at Lokeren‚ with the player suggesting on numerous occasions in the past that he was ready to take a step up to a bigger club.

The 24-year-old joined Lokeren from the ASD Academy in Cape Town and has long been thought of as a player with huge potential who has perhaps not quite fulfilled his early promise.

He has been recalled to the Bafana Bafana squad by national team coach Shakes Mashaba for the last two camps and came on as a substitute against Mozambique. — TMG Digital
