Wounded FC Buffalo face battling WSU

- By ZINGISA MVUMVU

STILL licking their wounds from the 3-1 drubbing at the hands of Matatiele Pros, FC Buffalo will this coming weekend welcome Walter Sisulu University (WSU) FC to the Jan Smuts Stadium.

But Buffalo will draw confidence from the fact that WSU themselves are not doing well of late following a 1-0 home defeat to Highbury.

Through the loss to Pros, Buffalo have had their resurgence disturbed and will be out to redeem themselves against the students.

Buffalo boss Mash Mashaya believes the defeat is but one of those hurdles expected when playing away from home.

“Playing away is always a challenge and it happens to everyone, it is no big deal and we will rise again,” he said.

A surprising result this past weekend was that of the goalless stalemate between Future Tigers and Tornado, who battled it out in a Buffalo City derby at the North End Stadium.

Although no team could claim all three points, the result is not bad for Tigers, who for the first time since ascending to the second division last year avoided losing against Tornado.

Not only did Tigers manage to duck another thumping at the hands of Tornado they managed to cling on to their second spot on the log standings with 21 points from 10 outings.

This weekend they welcome Lion City at the Ginsberg Stadium while Tornado, who are in position seven, travel to Mthatha to meet Mthatha City.

It would seem last weekend was one for surprise results for log leaders EC Bees were shockingly held to a 2-2 draw by 15th-placed relegation candidates, Morning Stars.

Bees, still the only undefeated side thus far this season, will be hoping to get back to their winning ways when they travel to Highbury for their next league game.

But first for the Bhisho side is a Nedbank Cup eliminator against SAB League side Amavarara on Saturday at Queen’s College in Komani.

Should they emerge winners against Amavarara, which is what is expected, Bees will be into the Nedbank Cup last 32 representing Eastern Cape for the second year in a row and by so doing reaffirm their dominance in provincial football.

Mdantsane’s relegation-threatened Mighty Bucks appear to have gone back to their old ways after being clobbered 4-0 by City Lads – a result that poured cold water on the two matches in a row they managed not to lose prior to the meeting with the Lads.

Mighty Bucks will hope to redeem themselves as they visit Morning Stars in their next match but if Stars’ result against Bees is anything to go by, the Mdantsane outfit should be worried. —
