Highway still hold the high ground

-

HIGHWAY Spar remain at the top of the Inaugural 2016 EL Central Industrial football league logstandings after they beat ANAX 2-1 over the past weekend.

In a hard-fought encounter, Highway prevailed courtesy of goals from Anathi Nenga and Olwethu Makeleni to extend their unbeaten run to five games.

This, after securing a comfortable 3-1 win against Nestlé last week Tuesday evening at the North End stadium.

A double strike by Akhona Didiza and a third from Sibongiseni Gwentsha did the trick.

Buffalo City Municipal Metro moved up into second place after trouncing DMC 10-1.

Mercedes-Benz All Stars are in third place after they defeated Aspen 5-0.

These three sides appear to be early hot favourites for the title.

Highway are a well-organised unit, while Buffalo City Metro have a potent strikeforce that has already raked in 15 goals in four appearances.

All Stars have a star-studded lineup as they have a host of players competing in the Local Football Association premier leagues.

They will certainly prove to be a tough nut to crack.

In other results the past week, Mercedes Strikers beat Hemmingways 2-0 to move up into sixth place and DMC picked up their first win of the season when they beat Nestlé 2-1.

The week’s programme concludes tomorrow evening when league strugglers DMC entertain Strikers and Hemmingways and ANAX lock horns at 6.15pm at the North End stadium. — DDC
