Quality fare to put Sisa on new high

- By ZINGISA MVUMVU

THERE will be a lasting legacy left for the development of football in Mdantsane post the hosting of the MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) this weekend at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane.

This is the view of the Buffalo City Metro LOC for the MDC chairman Sthembiso Khanyile who promised the beautiful game will never be the same again in SA’s second biggest township.

Not only was football development going to be the only beneficiary but the MDC was going to unlock township economy for Mdantsane.

Among other benefits, just a fortnight after the MDC Chippa United senior team will arrive at the very venue to host Highlands Park – the first Premier League match in Mdantsane for more than 15 years.

“The MDC essentially launches the return of topflight football to Mdantsane so you can imagine the excitement that is going to be in there for the whole weekend,” said Khanyile.

But the MDC will not be the only soccer feast in the township that has been started of top-flight soccer for the year.

According to Khanyile, at least three Premier League home matches for Chippa have been confirmed to be taking place at the venue – first up being against Highlands Park on December 17.

Plans were in place, details of which to be revealed in time, about the metro’s sport development programme around Sisa which has received a major facelift ahead of the MDC.

But immediately, aspirant football starts currently plying their trade in the amateur soccer leagues would get an opportunity of a lifetime to see some of their stars face-to-face, gratis since entry is free.

The MDC event and all other big soccer matches to be hosted in Mdantsane were also meant to make the township a tourist attraction and the home of soccer in South Africa.

Khanyile said they were expecting football-loving masses to come out in their numbers.

Spectators who rock up at Sisa tomorrow and Sunday stand a chance to win a R5 000 groceries voucher to be spent in any SA supermarket courtesy of MultiChoice.

The individual who wins will be shortlisted for the final draw when the MDC season comes to an end with the grand prize a trip with a partner to Netherlands with MDC champions. —
