NSRI help two in breathing crisis

FOR the second time in just a few days members of the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) on Saturday went to the aid of a sailor suffering from breathing difficulti­es on a vessel off the Eastern Cape coast.

The NSRI St Francis Bay duty crew responded to a request for medical help at about 10.40am on Saturday from the chokka fishing boat Alchemist, which had a crewman on board with asthma.

“The patient‚ an adult man from Port Elizabeth‚ was transferre­d onto the sea rescue craft and medical treatment commenced while en route to our sea rescue base,” said Sarah Smith‚ NSRI St Francis Bay station commander. Paramedics took over once they reached land and the man was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

An NSRI East London duty crew had to deal with a similar situation on Wednesday morning when it evacuated a crewman off the fishing vessel Ebayi with breathing difficulti­es‚ weakness and a suspected throat infection. The man, 46, was brought into East London and transporte­d to hospital in a stable condition‚ said Geoff McGregor‚ NSRI East London station commander.

● Dutywa police arrested a youth, 22, for dealing in dagga at the weekend.

He was was caught with 2.45kg dagga with a street value of R2000. Also arrested was a man of 53 at Mkiva Business premises in Dutywa with 3kg of dagga worth R3000. They are due in court today. — TMG Digital and Zipo-Zenkosi Ncokazi
