New service delivers alcohol to your home

A NEW online alcohol delivery service promises to deliver booze to customers’ doorstep in less than an hour in East London.

Yolo Mobile Bar was founded by East London entrepreneurs and innovators Buntu Mati and Andile Africa.

It was launched on Thursday December 1 and has been well received in the city, Mati told the Daily Dispatch.

Mati hopes their idea will see a drop in accidents caused by drunk drivers and drunk driving arrests around the city.

Mati said the app is available on Google Play for Android phones and should be available for Apple iOS phones by next week.

“It is a very small app and quick to install and once you install the app, you can start ordering,” said Mati.

“How many people get arrested on their way to buy a glass beer, a pack of cigarette and bag of ice for R100 and get a criminal record because of that?

“We deliver alcohol, ice, cigarettes and cool drink,” Mati said. He said the service was affordable as customers paid only the price highlighted in the app.

The idea dawned when they compared the services received in bigger towns such as Johannesburg with East London.

“Whenever you come back to East London, these new ideas are non-existent, as if we live in a different world … there is room for those innovations to work,” Mati said.

Mati said lots of people ran out of alcohol while still enjoying themselves at home and this was the gap that the innovative application would fill.

“Imagine driving from Mthatha to East London at 6pm and you have guests you have invited over to your house and by the time you get to town (East London), you can’t buy the drinks because it is too late.

“We are saying you can buy the drinks and get [them] delivered to your place,” Mati said.
