Roots bash to unite expats with diverse feast of music
IT IS all systems go for this year’s second annual London Roots Party, where thousands of Eastern Cape expats converge for music and dance.
The event, which is still new to the East London party scene, promises to give East Londoners a different experience this festive season.
It is one of many entertainment events that have been held in East London over the festive season.
Event organisers, London Roots Entertainment, said because most professionals from the Eastern Cape lived in the larger metropolitan areas of Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg for most of the year, December was a perfect time to host a homecoming event and for them to reunite with friends and families.
The event’s head of marketing, Nande Mpongo, said theirs was more than just a regular party.
“We are trying to promote more than just a regular party but a said.
The day event will be hosted by Somizi at Cambridge Police Park on December 26 and will feature national and international artists such as Monique Bingham, Harrison Crump, kwaito veteran Thebe, NaaqMusiq, Ricky Rick and TBO Touch.
“We have tried to keep an open mind about the people that are attending the event, hence we have put together a variety of artists in different genres,” he said.
Mpongo said they were also going to give an “enormous” platform to local artists to showcase their talents, with the hope of getting wellestablished artists to not only adopt and coach local artists but ensure that they grow their brands.
Mpongo said London Roots had invested much in the infrastructure of the event as a means to ensure that people would be “comfortable in the space they are in”.
He said ticket sales were already doing well and that they were confident the lifestyle,” he event would this year be bigger and better.
