Reflections on the year that was
Most East Londoners have high hopes for 2017
WITH today being the last day of 2016, Daily Dispatch reporter Qaqamba Magadla asked East London residents how the year had been for them and what they were looking forward to next year. This is what they had to say: Manelisi Bozo, 30, of Gonubie: “I am a very goal orientated person – I am happy to have achieved most of my goals this year. I’ve had no additional personal debt, living a healthy active life and furthering my education. I am looking forward to enhancing some of these goals.”
Francois Smal, 24, of Beacon Bay:
“2016 hasn’t been all that great. This year has taken too many people with it. I think the country hasn’t been doing well either economically; education has taken a plunge with the fees must fall and the Springboks have been performing poorly. I’m looking forward to 2017 New Year, new beginnings, being grateful for the wonderful people I still have in my life.”
Amahle Madikizela, 26, of Beacon Bay:
“2016 has honestly been a great year for me. I graduated, got a job, bought a new car and I got married this year as well. I’m looking forward on working on my physical appearance this includes gym and living a healthy life. I also want to further my studies next year.” Leslie Wayne, 35, of Amalinda: “This has been a year of misfortune – entertainment took preference and priority over more critical issues.
“I am a new house owner and I’ve encountered two burglaries this year. I’ve personally grown and learnt a lot through these misfortunes. I intend to reposition myself in the next year and focus on important things.”
Siyamthanda Ngqoleka, 17, of Cambridge:
“It’s been a very hectic year a rollercoaster ride really. School has been quite intense and I’ve had to really work hard and focus more this year. It’s also been a fulfilled year. I’ve had my fair share of fun. I hope the New Year brings lot of happiness.”
Nureed Delang 25, of Beacon Bay:
“I spend most of my time at work. This year has provided me with a lot of new opportunities and it has been a year of growth and development. I got a promotion at work. I’ll be working on upscaling myself, working harder in the next year.”
Fundiswa Jamani, 42, of Wilsonia:
“It has been a difficult year for me. I’ve had to move around from one place to the other to set up a stand. The challenges faced this year have made me a stronger person.” Zanele Mposi 24, of Wilsonia: “I’ve been struggling to conceive for four years now and I’ve been blessed with a baby this year.
