EASTERN Cape police have called for calm and tolerance on the roads after a taxi driver was killed in a road rage incident involving another taxi driver following a head-on collision.

The incident took place in Amalinda Main Road on Thursday at 5pm. The victim was identified as Bubele Mvandaba, 43, from Stoney Drift, Amalinda.

East London police spokesman Captain Mluleki Mbi said the taxis, two cars, crashed near the Frere Hospital and then raced each other down the Amalinda Main Road.

They stopped and a fight for car keys ensued.

“It is further said that as they struggled with the car keys, one driver was pushed and fell, hitting his head on the tarmac. He died on the scene.”

Mbi said a 36-year-old man was arrested and would appear in the East London Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of murder.
