Education development officers to lift up schools
THE department of education is looking for 33 education development officers (EDOs) to monitor the performance and functionality of schools across 19 districts.
According to a newspaper advert, the specialists, who will receive salaries ranging from more than R400 000 to R1.1-million a year, will be responsible for the general upkeep of schools allocated to them.
The EDOs will be assigned to schools in areas such as East London, KwaBhaca (formerly Mount Frere), Dutywa and King William’s Town.
Education department spokesman Malibongwe Mtima said the posts became vacant after a number of EDOs retired and some moved to other schools or higher positions within the department.
Duties for the successful candidates will include visiting schools to monitor and record the state of school resources and general upkeep of schools’ physical infrastructure and strengthening the administrative, leadership, management and governance capacity of the school under their brief.
Successful candidates will also be expected to strengthen the school governing body and ensure the school’s finances are run efficiently and record and monitor the schools demand and supply of teachers.
The requirements for those interested include a recognised three to four years qualification which includes a profesional teaching qualification.
The closing date for applications is February 3. —
