-

CELEBRITIES and other high-profile personalities have joined thousands of fans in paying tribute to gospel star Lundi Tyamara who died during the early of hours of yesterday morning.

In the wake of the gospel legend’s death his celebrity friends have remembered the way Tyamara touched the lives of thousands of people through his music.

Fellow gospel musician Andile KaMajola said he was heartbroken by Tyamara’s death.

“They say this happens every minute but we never get used to it. Death be not proud you’ve robbed us yet again R.I.P boi who will ever forget I guess nobody could stop it when God had said yes‚ farewell boi farewell‚” said Andile.

Minister of Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa sent his condolences to Tyamara’s family.

“It is with a deep sense of grief and sadness that we have learnt of the untimely passing of Gospel Star and Legend Lundi Tyamara‚” he said.

Singer Vusi Nova detailed the first time he met Lundi.

“Had the pleasure of meeting him for the first time at mama Winnie [Madikizela-]Mandela’s birthday party last year and he put on a hell of a show even [though] he wasn’t well! Your music will live on. Rest in peace Lundi‚” he said.

Tyamara died at Edenvale Hospital where he was being treated for stomach TB and liver complications.

The gospel star had been in and out of hospital since December. However, his condition turned critical on Monday and he was moved to ICU.

Popular pastor Paseka “Mboro” Motsoeneng told Times Media that Tyamara requested a prayer from him days before his death.

Just hours after Tyamara’s death was confirmed‚ Mboro shared intimate details from his visit to the star in hospital earlier this month after the gospel star had “called for him”.

“There weren’t many people who were allowed to see him (in hospital) but he called for me specifically.

“When I arrived‚ he embraced me. The way he welcomed me was just amazing. We spoke and he asked me to pray for him. To leave him with a blessing.

“He immediately showed signs of life. I could see that everything was not well but we were hopeful‚” Mboro said.

Mboro added that he was saddened by the news of Tyamara’s death but was comforted in knowing he had helped bring him closer to God.

“Knowing what he was going through‚ it is comforting to know that he is now with God and at rest. We are sad but I believe that Lundi is in heaven with the God he sang for‚” Mboro added.

Mboro also pledged to help the family give Tyamara a respectful funeral.

“I only met Lundi’s family at the hospital. But if they need my support or assistance while planning his memorial or funeral‚ I would be happy to help‚” Mboro said. — TMG
