Rubusana unity or division?

-

THE article “Council meeting aborted” (January 26) made me ask myself, where are the ethics of journalism. I really felt so disappointed at the lack of truth in the story which readers will believe.

It talks about the replacement of the city manager without understanding that the extension of the acting city manager by-law (provides for) an extension for three months by the executive mayor and a further three months by the MEC for co-operative governance and traditional affairs. That means a total of six months – which the current city manager has exhausted. The further extension was declined by the MEC as required by the legislation

Your scribe went on to talk about a vote of noconfidence against the executive mayor which was never on the agenda of the council.

That displays a lack of ethical journalism, one based on fiction not facts. When your reporter talks about factions I asked myself how it is that a leader democratically elected by branches can become a faction and then whose faction?

The role of the media is to inform, educate and entertain. In which category does this article belong? To destroy?

I can safely say there are no divisions in Buffalo City but rather there is a united front with the aim of bringing good, quality services to our people. — Ayabulela Ngoqo, spokesperson for the executive mayor, BCM

WHILE former SA President Nelson Mandela was dying some of the ANC leaders at BCM were plotting to loot the state coffers using Madiba’s name.

We are all aware a case is still pending in an East London court on these allegations.

Pumlani Mkolo, who was implicated in the Mandela scandal, appeared before the ANC’s national integrity committee as per the Mangaung resolution of 2012. The integrity committee took the decision to suspend Mkolo who was the secretary of the Dr WB Rubusana region and found that he should not take part in any ANC activities, including in the lead up to the local government election in August 2016.

The question is, why does the suspended member still seem to exercise influence?

And if Mkolo and the mayor, Xola Pakati, are on a collision course, do we think BCM will have stability and that councillors will concentrate on their core business?

Last Wednesday January 25 a council meeting was adjourned. There is a split between two factions. It includes some officials. The swords are out in the ANC’s Dr WB Rubusana region.

Why is the ANC PEC keeping mum? As voters, are we missing something? The ANC PEC and NEC need to intervene. — Thobani, via e-mail
