Chilli Boys ready for allcomers for their Cup offensive
NEWLY signed Chippa United assistant coach Zipho Dlangalala said he is not bothered by the team’s previous misfortunes in the Nedbank Cup and the plan is to have a positive mind-set going into this year’s competition.
The Nedbank Cup last 32 draw will be conducted tomorrow night in Johannesburg.
Chippa have not had much luck in the competition in their two previous attempts. They have not gone further than the first round of the competition.
The Port Elizabeth side were knocked out by ABC Motsepe League side Natal United after they lost 4-2 on penalties. That was followed by a 3-2 defeat by Baroka last year.
The former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns development coach said the plan is to go all the way and win the trophy this year.
“What happened in previous years does not bother me,” said Dlangalala.
“We are determined to put what happened last season behind us, and move forward with a positive mind-set that will give positive results.”
He said he was looking forward to the outcome of the draw tomorrow night.
“I will be happy with any team that we are drawn to play against, because we are all equal. We might just differ in the level of the league we play in.
“History has shown that even teams from lower leagues can turn tables when playing big teams in the top leagues.
“Our wish is to win the cup and that’s everyone’s wish as well. Even the teams that come from lower leagues have the same wish.
“I just hope that we will do as well as we can.”
Dlangalala, who joined Chippa early this year, said he felt honoured and privileged when he got the invite from the club to be part of the team.
He had worked with the team’s head coach Dan “Dance” Malesela before in Sundowns lower divisions.
The coach said he was happy to be reunited with Malesela once more.
“It’s a great opportunity and privilege that I got this invitation and that he (Malesela) offered me an opportunity to work with him again.
“With the respect that we have for one another I am positive that we’ll achieve the same positive results that we produced in the past when we worked together and even better.
“This is a new chapter and a new level of operation.”
Meanwhile, Chippa yesterday gave development player Yurigg Conwood of Gelvandale a senior contract.
Chippa’s communications and marketing manager, Luthando Zibeko confirmed the promotion.
“Yes, we have promoted Yurigg from our development team to senior team but more information of new signings will be announced by the team this week.”
