Petition builds against BCM councillor

- By SIMTHANDILE FORD

A PETITION listing grievances against a ward councillor is heading BCM mayor Xola Pakati’s way.

Residents of ward 1 are disappointed with their councillor, Kuhle Ciliza, for a number of reasons, including that she has not called important meetings in the ward such as one that was meant to elect ward committee members.

Ward 1 includes Braelyn Hills and Heights, Milner Estate, Stoneydrift, Milner Lennock, Panmure, Chiselhurst, Braelynn Ext 10 and Duncan Village.

The petition has more than 900 signatures so far, and residents hope to submit it to the mayor at the end of the week.

Milner Estate resident Priscilla Murray said since Ciliza took office there had been no service delivery and no sign of work towards it.

“Our councillor is never available to even answer her cellphone or any text message that is sent her.

“She has not called any meeting, even to notify of ward committees or even to come and identify ward committee potential members,” said Murray.

Some residents claimedCiliza had neglected the community and did not attend meetings she called herself. Ciliza allegedly called a meeting on January 24 that was meant to consider an application for a liquor licence in Braelyn, but she apparently failed to pitch.

Duncan Village resident Kholiswa Matanga said: “We went in numbers to the meeting but Ciliza never even bothered to come. What was worse was she called the meeting.”

Mayoral spokesman Ayabonga Ngoqo said they could not comment on the petition until the mayor had received it. Ciliza was unavailable for comment at the time of writing yesterday.
