Colourful start for EC leaders

- By SISIPHO ZAMXAKA

YELLOW seemed to be the colour of the day at the Eastern Cape State of the Province address (Sopa), as politicians, traditional leaders and other guests walked down the red carpet to listen to premier Phumulo Masualle address the Eastern Cape Legislature in Bhisho.

Championing that route in a dazzling yellow fairy Paul Boahene dress was roads and public works MEC Thandiswa Marawu.

She said the beautiful gown was synonymous with the future of bright.

“The colour of my dress is inspired by the bright future that lies ahead of my department. In five years to come, the department will be better than it is now,” she said.

Arguably, sport, recreation, arts and culture MEC Pemmy Majodina wore the most colourful and eccentric attire of the day.

Stuffy and boring is not in Majodina’s vocabulary – yesterday’s outfit sealed that statement as she walked down the red carpet. her department –

Her green and yellow dress seemed to have been a mermaid dress gone wrong, with yellow shoes and fascinator to match.

A yellow piece of cloth attached to her shoulders made her look like Superman’s mot Like last year, she did not forget her umbrella.

Rural development and agrarian reform MEC Mlibo Qoboshiyane donned the same navy suit he wore at last year’s Sopa with a red tie – and dazzling smile.

Speaker Noxolo Kiviet, who welcomed the premier to the legislature, kept it simple and classic with a navy knee-high dress, gold prints.

EFF members Litha Zibula and Siyabulela Peter wore their red overalls and Makarabas with confidence.

Although their outfit issue was in the court of law, Zibula and Peter said they did not honour “white monopoly” and this was their way to honour their mothers and fathers who were “garden boys and domestic workers”.
