After-school quarrel ends in tragedy

AN FIGHT after school between two Duncan Village pupils ended in tragedy when one of them drew a knife and stabbed the other to death.

The incident took place on Thursday, at a bridge on the Douglas Smit Highway, about 500m from Mzokhanyo High School where both pupils were enrolled.

The deceased, Buhle Dlambiso, was 15 years old and the other youth is 17. Both were in Grade 8.

According to other pupils the boys were friends, but it was not clear what led to the fight and stabbing.

The school said the two had fought over a chair. Some pupils said they were fighting over a girl and still others said the fight was over something that was said.

Speaking to the Daily Dispatch, Buhle’s aunt, Liziwe Willem, said they had received a phone call on Thursday around 3pm informing was hurt.

“When we got there he was lying in middle of the street with his face down and we were told he was stabbed. There were police at the scene.

“I turned him over and I saw blood. He was already dead,” Willem said.

Willem said the two youths had been friends since last year.

“We heard the fight was over a school chair but there were also rumours about a girl but that has not them Buhle been confirmed by the she said.

A teacher at the school, Thando Gaba, expressing shock, said: “Pupils fight over minor things, but never has it ended in such tragedy.”

Police spokesman Captain Nkosikho Mzuku said the young man was released into the custody of his mother, who would now be responsibl­e for his future court appearance­s because he was under 18. — girl in question,”
