Hunter becomes hunted

-

ALSO opening in East London tomorrow is South African film Jagveld, the script for which was written by best-selling crime author, Deon Meyer, whose works have been adapted for the screen before.

It tells the story of Emma le Roux (played by Leandie du Randt) who, on her way home to her family’s farm in the Great Karoo, witnesses a murder.

The film’s synopsis tells of Emma, the pacifist primary school teacher who has made the trip home a thousand times without incident, crossing paths with Bosman, Baz, Jay and Boela, AJ and Piet on this trip.

Bosman is the mastermind of a drug syndicate. A psychopath, he is savage and violent. Baz and Jay are his henchmen – murderers, monsters.

AJ and Boela, spoiled brats looking for validation, are on board to make a quick buck in the criminal underworld. And then there's Piet, the weakling, who is willing to do just about anything for his cousin Bosman.

In the film Emma witnesses the murder of a policeman at their hands. And they see her seeing them. Now they’re hunting her down like an animal ... she’s easy prey, after all – it’ll all be over soon. Emma however is the daughter of Jacques le Roux (played by Tertius Meintjes). And Le Roux was a Recce. Nothing about this hunt is going according to plan; everything is falling apart, and fast. At first they were driven by hate and revenge. Suddenly, it’s survival.

The Afrikaans film with English subtitles is produced by the Karoo Film Company, a South African film production company founded by Diony Kempen.

Jagveld is directed by Byrno Davis and stars Leandie du Randt, Neels van Jaarsveld, Tim Theron, Bouwer Bosch, Edwin van der Walt, Luan Jacobs, Danie Putter, Tertius Meintjes, Drikus Volschenk, Albert Maritz, Lee-Ann van Rooi. 16LV, running time 103min. — DDR
