BCM must be fair to all

-

BCM has certainly opened a “can of worms” to make sure that “bylaws” are being respected and abided by all residents in the greater BCM by shutting down mechanics working from their own homes (“Metro forces backyard mechanic to close shop”, DD March 15.)

Well, may I add that there are many other “bylaws” that are not being respected or abided by and if BCM wants to adopt policing “bylaws” then that would have to apply to “all” bylaws, and not just certain handpicked ones.

There are going to be several hundred families left destitute, not knowing how they are going to provide for their families, and BCM has just added to the unemployment statistics by shutting down businesses being run from home.

What about all the other various industries and enterprises that are running very successful businesses from their homes, are they also going to be shut down?

BCM will have to shut down all the hawkers who are the biggest culprits of the city being run into the ground because of their filth that they leave behind wherever they trade (a clear example of this is in the city centre – no law and order or bylaws are being considered here).

What about all the loitering around on every street corner, especially around the entrances of businesses and shopping malls?

Bylaws should have been managed and policed 10 years ago in BCM, this has not happened, and now we find ourselves in this anarchy like situation, where there is no control.

My prayers go out to all those families who are trying to make an honest living and providing for their families and at the same time contributing to the economy by providing needed services to general public and keeping people employed and food on the table.

If you want to apply bylaws, you have to apply all the bylaws and not draw certain ones out of a hat. — Marius Sardinha, via e-mail

BCM, go around in the suburbs like Amalinda and check on the illegal businesses run from residential properties.
