Audiologist lives out his passion for music

- By POLISWA PLAATJIE

MDANTSANE-born audiologist Vuyisa Sholo, now turned musician, is kicking off his first gospel tour in Port Alfred next Saturday.

Sholo, who runs his own practice in KwaBhaca (formerly Mount Frere), said his love for music dated to 2003 when he was 13.

In 2009 he won a music competition but it was only when he left East London for the University of Cape Town that he took his love for music to the next level.

“I met a band there and we would perform together at various events. In 2012, while doing my third year, I released my first album titled Rejoice in the Lord.

“The album did not do well as I thought it would but that didn’t stop me from praising the Lord,” he said.

In 2013 he left the Western Cape to do his community service in Mount Ayliff.

“I did not stop doing music even when I was working at the hospital but I had to work around my hours,” he said.

Due to his demanding job at the Mt Ayliff Hospital, Sholo decided to open his own practice last year to give himself time to focus on music.

“I had to leave government because music is also an important aspect of my life. I am passionate about music and spreading the word of God through this ministry.

“Now I work with a booking system and I can travel for shows without worrying about work,” he said.

Last year he released his second album titled uYesu Uyebuya, working with the award-winning Betusile Mcinga and Butho Vuthela.

The first leg of his tour kicks off in Port Alfred next Saturday.

The event will feature the gospel power couple Butho and Yolanda Vuthela, Lusizo Kango, Lutsha Yalelo, Xolisa Kwinana, Ntethelelo and Bulelani Koyo.

● Tickets cost R80 and are available at Ndlambe FM (formerly known as Kowie FM in Port Alfred), Ndlambe Tourism and Jet Stores. —
