Memorial service for Mafela today

A MEMORIAL service for veteran actor Joe Mafela will be held at the Mandela Theatre in Newtown‚ Johannesbu­rg, this morning‚ the star’s family has confirmed.

Family spokeswoma­n Milly Mulelu said the memorial would start at 10am.

Hundreds of friends and fans are expected to fill the theatre to pay tribute to the Is Good‚ Is Nice actor‚ who died in a car accident on Saturday evening.

The family said funeral arrangemen­ts had not yet been finalised.

A bakkie collided with Joe’s Ford Figo at around 10pm on Saturday. The star was declared dead by paramedics on the scene and a case of culpable homicide was opened.

The producers of Generation­s: The Legacy will wait until after Mafela’s funeral before deciding on whether or not to replace him on the show.

Fans of the the veteran actor‚ known for his role as Tebogo Moroka on Generation­s ‚ have speculated over whether the show will replace his popular character in the wake of his recent death.

Speaking yesterday‚ Generation­s spokeswoma­n Gaaratwe Mokhethi said that they had not yet decided on what to do with Joe’s character.

“We are still mourning the death of Joe Mafela and so a decision hasn’t been made yet. We will meet after the funeral to discuss whatever needs to be done.”

She denied social media reports that a new actor had already been cast in Joe’s role.
