Big things happen for EL’s Lil G

- By POLISWA PLAATJIE

A RELATIONSHIP between Eastern Cape label Asanda Empires and US label 300 Entertainment/ Records will see Mdantsane rapper, Lil G, working with international star Mike West on his new upcoming single.

300 Entertainment is the home of well-known rappers such as Yung Thug, Fatty Wap, Rich The Kid and Migos.

West is scheduled to release his extended play (EP) in May.

The collaboration comes after the East London-based record label founder Asanda Mabengwana visited New York late last year to make contact with international record labels.

It now has a licensing deal with Universal Music, which sees the international label release and market music produced by Asanda Empire artists.

“After my visit to New York we sent the guys music made by Asanda Empires artists and they liked Kay and Lil G the most. Now we are working on this feature with Mike West. Hazardous Records will be releasing Mike West’s EP in May and they have decided to work on a song between him and Lil G.

“The song will then be used to launch Lil G’s career in the US as a rapper,” he said.

Mabengwana, who also has offices in Johannesburg, said the feature with West was only the beginning of their international plans for their artists.

“In the next two months Lil G and Kay are scheduled to go to the US. They will still be signed under Asanda Empires but Hazardous Records will use their resources to launch their careers,” he said, adding that West and Lil G would work on more songs together before the big release.

Lil G, 22, whose real name is Athenkosi Matebese, joined Asanda Empires in August last year after Mabengwana heard his music on Mdantsane FM.

The rapper said he was happy about the latest developments in his career. —
