Annual comedy show set to enthrall all ages

- By NONSINDISO QWABE

THE annual Amazing Laughs Comedy Show takes place at the Guild Theatre tomorrow afternoon, promising a memorable time filled with laughter and awe.

The mastermind behind this event, now in its fourth year, is Simkhulu Sigobelwana, who is wellknown as Shuz.

Sigobelwana says this concept is something he has wanted to see come alive for a long time, and is chuffed to be finally living out his dream.

The Eastern Cape socialite, who grew up in Zwelitsha, says entertaining crowds has always come naturally to him. “From a young age, I enjoyed making people laugh wherever I was.”

Shuz says when people recognised this gift he received invites to MC and feature at various shows and events across the country.

“They’d say they need to add a spice of humour to their events that only I can bring. After every event, people would ask me why I wasn’t hosting my own comedy show.”

In May 2014, Shuz heeded this call, and hosted his first Amazing Laughs Comedy Show at the Guild, and has not looked back.

“The response I got from that first show is what has made me continue even amidst all the challenges I encounter along the way.”

The shows take place a few times a year, and Sigobelwana says he wants it to expand to other provinces.

“I’ve had one show in PE, and my next stop is Cape Town. I want to host these shows nationally, and God willing, even internationally.

“Amazing Laughs is fully funded from my own pocket, a difficult exercise, but I believe in this vision.”

What makes Amazing Laughs unique, according to Sigobelwana, is its way of reaching out to every member of the audience. “These shows bring people together in harmony, as it is family orientated.”

For this year’s first show he’s partnered up with fellow socialites Mbathane Makwethu and Keith Ngesi, and a lot of homegrown talent, in younger comedians he’s mentored and trained.

“We have seven comedians for this show: Mbulelo Msongelwa, Ta Mroja Molo, Msimelelo Qata, Sir Nka, Siya Molozana Dyebo makeleni and Amino Khango, all from Eastern Cape.”

Amazing Laughs Comedy Show will be on tomorrow from 3pm. Tickets are available at Shoprite, Checkers, Computicket and Guild Theatre at R120 for adults and R60 for kids. — nonsindisoq@dispatch.
