Tigers look headed to the summit

Bees may have other ideas to upset applecart

- By MKHULULI NDAMASE

FUTURE Tigers will have a chance to go back to the summit of the ABC Motsepe League standings as they travel to Port Elizabeth to lock horns with Swartkops Valley United Brothers in tonight's only game.

Tigers are currently second on the log – one point behind leaders EC Bees after 25 games.

Should Tigers win against Subs at the NU2 Motherwell Stadium, they will have 61 points and go back to the top of the standings.

However, that lead might be shortlived as Bees will be in action against Highbury at the Bhisho Stadium tomorrow.

Tigers, who convincingly beat on-form Tornado 3-1 last weekend are expected to easily put the Motherwell outfit to the sword.

But Subs will be eager to stun yet another top side as they were the first team to beat Bees this season, so if Tigers underestimate the hosts, they will be made to pay.

They will be determined to win all the games seen to be easier on paper so as to make things easy on themselves and not rely on other sides to do them a favour come the end of the season.

Bees will host Highbury at the Bhisho Stadium tomorrow.

The “Crazy Gang” as Bees are affectively known are also high in confidence following the 4-1 thrashing of bottom dwellers, Morning Stars last weekend.

Highbury are expected to give Bees more competition than Stars did last week, but the Chippa Njedu coached side should still be able to get the better of the Port Elizabeth northern areas team and go back to the top of the log.

At the North End Stadium, fans will be treated to what should be an evenly contested affair between fourth placed Mthatha City and fifth placed Tornado.

Only a point separates the two sides as they hope to finish the season in a respectable position.

But having lost last weekend and home advantage although they will not be playing in Mdantsane, should give Tornado a slight edge over City.

Mdantsane Mighty Bucks have a date with struggling Stars at Jan Smuts Stadium.

Both sides are coming from losses in their last games and will be determined to get maximum points.

Thirteenth placed Bucks have 21 points from 24 games while Stars are 16th with 18 outings from the same number of games.

The Zwide side has found the going tough this season as they have only won four, drew six and lost 14.

Both sides have been leaking in goals with Stars letting in 47 while the Mdantsane side has conceded 37 goals.

At least the game should have goals judging by the teams' poor defending.

Third-placed Lion City will welcome City Lads at the NU2 Stadium in Motherwell.

City will be looking to have a firm grip on the log by moving to 52 points. While they will not move up or down on the log, they will be eager to keep the pressure on both Tigers and Bees.

FC Buffalo will travel to the Ibika Campus to lock horns with Walter Sisulu University. Matatiele Professionals have a date with Young Ideas at the Thandanani Stadium while the Gelvandale Stadium in Port Elizabeth with host Callies FC and Matta Milan.

Tonight's game kicks off at 6pm while play gets under way at 3pm tomorrow.
