Power cut to hit water supply to BCM villages

- By ATHENA O’REILLY

RURAL areas in northern Buffalo City Metro (BCM) will be without water for “three to five days”.

BCM spokesman Sibusiso Cindi blamed an Eskom power outage at the Sandile water treatment works and said water tankers would supply the areas.

Dimbaza’s five villages and Dimbaza will be without piped water for this time.

He said the cause of the outage was unknown.

“The duration of the water outage is not known at this stage as Eskom and Amatola water are still busy with repairs but it is anticipated that the system may take between three to five days to recover.”

The most affected areas will be Dimbaza township, and the villages of Zihlahleni, Handase, Lenge, and Rhayi.

Eskom spokesman Zama Mpondwana said Eskom had restored the electricity supply at the Amatola Water’s Sandile water treatment works yesterday.

“There was also a planned outage on the Amatola-Keiskamma 11kV line on Sunday to carry out annual maintenance and do project work.”

Cindi also advised motorists to proceed with caution today along Fleet Street today because roadworks were underway between the ramps into and off Bargain Furnishers and BCM old traffic garage.

The affected area would be closed and motorists were advised to use alternative routes. —
