Fiery Bohs prove they up for fight

- By ROSS ROCHE

BOHEMIANS Cricket Club produced a solid showing at the inaugural Multiply T20 Community Cup competition as the Warriors representatives finished third after a competitive weekend of action.

Lions representatives Jeppe were crowned champs in the end after going through the competition unbeaten, followed by Dolphins reps Crusaders, while Bohs came in third after winning two of the five matches they played.

“It is a bitter-sweet type of happiness because our first two games we could have won, so that leaves a bit of a bitter taste in the mouth, but to finish third in a national competition with us being here for the first time, we are very happy with that,” explained Bohs player-coach Camagu Mbangi.

On top of their good performances, Bohs’ Keegan Allen was named bowler of the tournament, picking up nine wickets in total after putting in consistent performances in every game, claiming two wickets in each of the first four matches and one scalp in the final match.

His miserly economy rate in most games will also have been a telling factor, with his 2/5 in four overs against Knights reps Burma Lads in their third match a particular highlight.

Allen, along with Jason Niemand and Jason Kumm were then included in the tournament team after their impressive performances. Niemand scored 126 runs in five innings, with his best effort 68 against Burma Lads, while he also had good contributions with 32 against Crusaders and a 10-ball 26 against Jeppe.

For Kumm he claimed eight wickets in the tournament, with 4/15 against Burma Lads and 4/21 against Titans representatives Kempton Park, while although not picking up a wicket, his 0/7 in four overs against Cobras representatives Brackenfell Cricket Club was equally impressive.

“Keegan getting bowler of the tournament was my highlight, I know how hard he has worked and this is a great moment for him and for us as a club,” said Mbangi.

“Him and Jason (Kumm) had a great little battle coming into the final day with them both on eight wickets and Keegan just managed that extra one in the last match.”

On Friday's first day Bohs got their tournament off to a torrid start with two losses, by six wickets against Brackenfell and 28 runs against Jeppe.

They then bounced back on day two with two massive wins, by 50 runs and eight wickets against Burma Lads and Kempton Park respectively.

The final day then saw Bohs go down by eight wickets against Crusaders. Their bonus point wins on day two were however enough to secure them third spot, a point ahead of Brackenfell who also claimed two wins, but only one with a bonus point, while Burma Lads and Kempton Park propped up the table after managing one win each.
