Bees keen to sting Buffalo

Pressure on for all teams

- By MKHULULI NDAMASE

LOG leaders EC Bees should remain at the top of the ABC Motsepe League standings as they travel to Jan Smuts Stadium in East London for a date with struggling FC Buffalo tomorrow.

The “Crazy Gang”, which has 62 points from 26 outings, will be eager to win all their games before meeting Future Tigers in what will likely be a league decider on May 6 in Bhisho.

On paper, Bees should easily put the former champions to the sword.

The players will want to show that they have not been affected by off-the-field shenanigans that resulted in team manager Zama Nene having a case of common assault opened against her for allegedly assaulting Siphesihle Fanta – a Tigers cameraman who was filming their game against Highbury last weekend.

A win for FC Buffalo will be a big morale-booster in an otherwise disastrous season but the Chippa Njedu-coached visitors should have enough firepower to beat the East Londoners.

But Tigers, who are one point behind Bees, will also be eager to keep the pressure on the Bhisho side by winning their clash against Callies FC at the Ginsberg Stadium.

Anything other than a win for the King William’s Town side will be a bad result, as they are looking to go into the last game of the season with a realistic chance of beating Bees and qualifying for the playoffs.

But sixth-placed Callies will not be a walk in the park for the side. Anything other than their A-game will result in a loss for Tigers.

Mdantsane outfit Tornado will lock horns with City Lads FC at the Mount Ayliff Stadium in Mount Ayliff.

Although Tornado will be away, they are expected to get the better of the home side judging by recent results.

A win for Tshepo Motsoeneng’s charges will take them to 50 points and cement their place in position four on the log.

At the Rotary Stadium in Ngangelizwe township, Mthatha City will be looking to bounce back from their 3-2 loss against Tornado when they play Swartkops Valley United Brothers.

City, who are fifth on the log, will be determined to make use of their homeground advantage and keep the pressure on Tornado with a win.

But Subs have shown that they are no pushovers and will give as good as they get.

However, City will have to turn their good possession into goals if they are to win.

Mdantsane Mighty Bucks will travel to Port Elizabeth to tussle with Lion City FC at the Motherwell NU2 Stadium.

Kick-off is at 3pm for all the games. 1215 1615 2040 1630 2040 1245 1645 Cricket: Royal Challengers Bangalore v Mumbai Indians Cricket: Gujarat Lions v Rising Pune Supergiants Rugby: Harlequins v Exeter Chiefs Soccer: Maritzburg United v Baroka FC Soccer: Newcastle United v Leeds United Motorsport: F1: Bahrain GP practice 1 Motorsport: Bahrain GP practice 2 1220 1650 1615 1330 1630 Rugby: Montpellier v Bayonne Rugby: Toulouse v Racing 92
