Buchan good news story

-

THANK you for printing the article “Buchan leads massive crowd in prayer for SA” (DD, April 24). Many papers have declined to report on this national historic event.

My dismay though was the amount of favour given to page 9 “Daily Life – Top Shots” 2017 Arnold Africa BodyBuilder competition.

While I understand that not all your readers are Christians, and you need to cater for all news, it seems to me someone lost the plot here.

A full page was given to photos glorifying the human body, when the body of Christ – a million plus (including many Eastern Cape citizens) had gathered to call on the highest authority, Jesus Christ for much needed transformation in SA. Publishing photos that accurately capture this event will ignite hope for many disillusioned South Africans. — Ruth, East London

I WAS very encouraged by the number of Christians who made the effort to attend the prayer meeting in Bloemfontein, but I wonder where they stand when it comes to elections.

Our present situation in this country began at the ballot box and the problems will continue with the 2019 elections unless drastic changes are made. Will we then call for another prayer meeting to ask God to sort out our problems?

As long as Christians vote out of fear and not according to their principles, the situation will continue to deteriorate and those in control will persist in self-enrichment while the poor remain forgotten. No one has a democratic right to exhort himself above others. Being a civil servant is a privilege and the term speaks for itself. When one is in a position of service one is entrusted to serve the taxpayer, not oneself.

Christians need to put feet to their faith and, in unity, begin to be salt and light in every sector of society, as we are called to be. God expects us to make wise decisions and to be informed about the constitutions of the various parties with godless agendas that they so glibly support. — Judy van Aardt, Vincent
