Aloes eager to find the high mark

- By NAMHLA MBONGENDLU

THE Eastern Cape Aloes are looking forward to their second game in the Brutal Fruit Premier Netball League against Mpumalanga Sunbirds over the coming weekend at the Durban University of Technology.

This follows the provincial team’s big win over the weekend when they beat the KZN Kingdom Stars 38-30 to register their first win of the league.

For the Aloes the ultimate goal is a spot in the top four as this will raise their chances of being pronounced league winners.

Team captain and wing defence Nosipho Goda previously said her team was excited about their win and it has given them positive energy to face other teams in the league and described “league booster”.

Moving forward Goda feels all teams have done their homework on their opponents therefore the game will be no walk in the park but they are hoping for a win.

“We can’t be confident we will win this game before we step onto the court because every team has done their homework but we are hopeful we will come out on top,” she said.

In this year’s Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League the stakes have it as a been raised as the champions will be treated to an experience of a lifetime where they get to play international netball as the grand prize is a trip to New Zealand.

Currently New Zealand ranks number two in world netball rankings following Australia who are occupying the number one spot. South Africa is in the fifth position.

However, the runners-up will also be well compensated for their efforts with a cash prize to the value of R150 000.
