Hair and beauty event in EL set to wow public

- By MBALI TANANA

IT’S all systems go for the first Africa Eastern Cape Hair and Beauty Week in East London, a three-day event that starts on Thursday.

Hair makeovers, live shows, and workshops and daily exhibitions by stylists and manufacturers have been lined up for East Londoners, to explore new styles and products in the hair and beauty industry.

L’Oreal and Mizani hair educator Hlengi Hans, the owner of Ginger Genetic Professional Hair Salon in Johannesburg, said the event was aimed at imparting information to the public and beauty and hair stylists.

“We have had so much support from stylists around the country, who will be sharing exciting hair tips, and manufactures will be hosting product-education workshops to inform people how to use hair products effectively and correctly.”

Workshops would also “educate those who are … struggling to professionalise their skills, and give them guidance as to how they can go about getting funding and growing their business”.

National artists such as Naaq Musiq and headline act Sandz are among the performers who will entertain visitors and professionals at the event.

Hans said the event would also see 15 stylists from around the Buffalo City Metro, who have been attending their mentoring programme, receive salon equipment and exhibit their skills.

Event co-coordinator Lwandy Ngebe said the event promised to be a not-tobe-missed one on the country’s events calendar. “We’ve been running a lot of awareness campaigns for the event, which have been warmly received, and all of our stalls have been booked.

“On Saturday we had a parade which started from Buffalo Toyota in Beacon Bay, where the event will be taking place, into townships and other parts of the city, to spread the word, because more than anything we want those unemployed people who have been thinking of pursuing careers in the industry to attend, and get the knowledge from experts in the field.”
