MDANTSANE’s DJ Lynch has made it to the top 11 of the SABC 1’s 1’s and 2’s.

DJ Lynch, whose real name is Luyanda Taku, was one of six DJs from the province who auditioned for the show in Johannesburg this month.

The show sees DJs from all over the country battle to become the next big thing on the decks.

DJ Lynch made it to the top 24 but did not make the cut for the top 12 last week.

However, after one of the 12 could not make it to the show, DJ Lynch was the next in line for the top 12 spot.

This week’s episode saw the DJ making his return and proceeding to the next level.

Despite being in the bottom three this Tuesday, DJ Lynch said he would do the province proud.

“The fact that I got called back means that God still wants me there and I am not done.

“The pressure is real, I won’t lie, and I am also not representing myself – there is Buffalo City Metro behind me and the entire province. But it’s all pressure that I can handle,” he said.

DJ Lynch said there were a lot of things to consider going forward in the show.

“There is what the judges want and also, as a DJ you must express your uniqueness. I just need to find a balance.”

Taku’s love for music dates back to the 1990s when he joined a gospel choir and dance group.

He and his fellow choir members performed at funerals and other events. He went on to form a kwaito group that performed at beauty pageants.

Since then, he has not looked back and is now one of East London’s top DJs. He is one of the founders of Sound and Harmonic (SNH) Productions and is currently a record producer.

He said since starting his music journey his family has been behind him all the way.

“There has never been a time that I doubted their support. Even now they are checking up on me.

“There is also the SNH family that has been making sure that everything that I need is covered.

“I am grateful for the support,” he said.

DJ Lynch said he hoped to make it to the top 10 of the competition.

“From the beginning I had high hopes but you never know what’s going to happen with competitions. I know I am not alone here and that I am surrounded by talented people as well.

“My goal is to make it to the top 10. I believe being on the show is already motivation and I have proven that anything can happen if you apply yourself,” he said.

Last year he released his debut album, Lyvolucion, which is available at Music Mix.

Catch the 1’s and 2’s show every Tuesday at 9pm on SABC1. —
