Not too late to get in line for MTB race

- By ROSS ROCHE

ONLINE and store entries for the eagerly anticipated Daily Dispatch Mountain Bike Challenge being held at Wings Park on Sunday, officially closed last night.

Interested competitors can still sign up for the race tomorrow and Saturday.

Race registration will be taking place at Hemingways Mall on the third floor outside Edgars in the courtyard area, from noon to 7pm tomorrow and 9am to noon on Saturday and late entries for the race can be made during these times at no extra cost.

“We are thrilled with the entries we have received so far for Sunday’s Mountain Bike event,” said Dispatch marketing manager Ryan Megaw. “We would like to encourage any others who are interested to come to registration on Friday and Saturday and enter,” added Megaw.

Electronic timing will also be a feature during this year’s race, so accurate times will be recorded for all competitors.

Great weather has been predicted for the weekend and, with plenty of riders having signed up, it is all set to be a great day of mountain bike action.

Terrible weather during last year’s race saw a limited field enter for the Mountain Bike event. However, this year has already seen entries pass last year’s numbers.

Five distances will be battled out on the day, with entries costing R180 for the 66km, R120 for the 42km, R80 for the 18km, R50 for the 10km and R30 for the 5km.

On the race day all cyclists need to be at the start line for the race briefing at 7am.

The 66km race will start shortly after, with the other four distances all setting off at 10-minute intervals after the main race.

All participating cyclists will receive free entry into the Air Fest on Sunday while tickets will be on sale at registration and all weekend at the Air Fest.
