Expect no real shocks in the club dogfights

- By ROSS ROCHE

ANOTHER weekend of fast-paced club rugby action is all set to light up the weekend as clubs compete in the sixth round of this season’s Border Super League.

The current competition pacesetters look to have a straightforward weekend, with three of the top four expected to pick up wins.

Defending champs Swallows look to have the stiffest challenge of the weekend as they travel to the Ntlaza Rugby Field to take on Ntlaza Lions.

The Lions enjoyed a solid start to the season before losing their last two games, so they will be eager to try to get back on the winning trail.

However, Swallows have enjoyed a good start to the season themselves, with just one loss, and they will be carrying some good momentum into the match after a hard-fought win over Police this past weekend, and they will be aiming for a good win on the road.

Super League log-leaders MPM Old Selbornians host Ocean Sweepers at Mike Pendock Motors Park.

It should be a straightforward bonus point win for Old Boys as they are the only unbeaten team left in the competition, and should have no problem against the only side who has yet to win a match.

Ocean Sweepers will, however, want to put in a positive showing, but it should be no match for the power of Old Boys.

The in-form Fort Hare Blues will be travelling to Queenstown for their clash with Breakers at the Mlungisi Sport Field.

The Blues have won four games in a row and will be heading into the Breakers game high on confidence, and with a number of first-choice players coming back into the team they should manage a comfortable win.

“Most of our senior players are coming back this weekend, so we will have a very strong team for the match,” said Fort Hare coach Mtyatyambo Mkhafu.

“I am expecting a big performance from the team.

“The way we are playing now we don’t care if it is a home or away game. The only thing that matters is the five points that we want and that is what we will be going for.”

The Walter Sisulu University All Blacks will be taking on Cambridge at Hamiltons Sports Club.

Cambridge can prove to be a tricky challenge on occasion, but the All Blacks should be able to take another good win and keep pressure on the teams above them on the table.

An interesting clash will see Buffs hosting Police at Buffalo Park tonight.

Buffs enjoyed a solid win over Cambridge last time out and they will want to claim a good win over Police, but the visitors will want to bounce back well after they narrowly lost last weekend, so they will be going all out.

Winter Rose will take on Berlin Tigers at the NU13 Rugby Field in Mdantsane, with both teams looking to pick up the victory.

Winter Rose are coming off their first win of the competition while Tigers have won two games so far, but come into the match off a loss, and both will be giving it everything.

Tonight’s match between Buffs and Police kicks off at 8pm, while the rest of the Super League matches kick-off tomorrow at 3.30pm.
