School rivalries to heat up the day

- By ROSS ROCHE

SCHOOL rugby derbies are heating up this weekend with some exciting clashes expected.

A whole host of encounters are on the cards against Grahamstown opposition, while two teams are travelling to Nelson Mandela Bay.

Hudson Park High and Selborne College host Graeme College and St Andrew’s respectively in what promises to be enticing games.

Hudson are coming off a bye weekend and will be looking to continue their good recent form and pick up their third win on the trot, while Graeme will be looking to bounce back from a close loss against Grey High School.

Selborne will still be buzzing from their exciting upset victory over Grey College last weekend and they will be aiming to take that momentum into the match against an in-form St Andr side that has won their last four matches.

Stirling High School travel to Grahamstown to take on Kingswood College.

Stirling have enjoyed a great season so far which peaked with a massive win over Queen’s College last weekend and they will be looking to claim another top win away at Kingswood, who have had an up and down season so far.

Queen’s face a massive test in travelling to Port Elizabeth, where they meet an unbeaten Grey team.

Queen’s have struggled a bit this season, culminating in their loss to Stirling. The Komani school will be desperate to bounce back, but it could prove too much against a side that has won eight games and drawn one so far this season.

High flying Dale College will head to Uitenhage to take on Muir College.

Dale have won their last five games in a row and head into the match with a lot of confidence. They should be odds on favourites.

Only two local derbies are taking part this weekend, with Port Rex travelling to King William’s Town to play De Vos Malan in the one.

It should be an interesting match, with both teams looking to impress.

The other local derby that was on show this weekend took place last night when Grens High hosted Cambridge High.

At the time of going to print last night, the game was still on.
