Riverside set sights on Star of India

- By GAVIN VAN ROOYEN

BUFFALO flats-based Riverside Football Club fondly known by their supporters as the “blue train” is the most successful East London Central club affiliate since the association’s inauguration in 2013.

They are currently in second place, one point behind the table toppers and their Easter Tournament conquerors, Star of India.

Tomorrow at 4pm, the blue train crosses swords with the Braelyn-based premier league championsStar of India at the North End stadium in a top of the table tussle.

Rocked by Riverside’s failure to once again win the only title that have eluded them over the years, the Easter Tournament and last week’s surprise defeat, coach Kelly Smith has been under firee.

Smith brushed

“All sides have to face good and bad times in football. It is all part of the game. What matters most is how mentally strong you are to erase those bad moments and come back stronger than ever before,’’ Smith said.

Star of India president Warren Vengadajellum has assembled a starstudded squad that he believes is now capable of emulating the 2007-2009 squad that won the North End Premier League Championship twice.

“We are celebrating our 115th anniversary this year. What better way to celebrate our anniversary than to lift the EL Central premier league championship trophy and add it to the prestigious Easter Tournament silverware’’, said Vengadejullam.

Seagulls will be hoping to continue their fine run at the expense of Pride of India whom they ruffle feathers with at 2.30pm. off however public criticism.
