DJ Stax makes right noises with ‘Transition’ album

- By POLISWA PLAATJIE

MTHATHA music producer DJ Stax is singing a new tune with his sophomore album, titled Transition .

DJ Stax, real name Fikile Faku, is not only a deep house DJ but runs his own record label where he opens his doors to aspiring musicians – without charging a fee.

He released his first album titled The New Beginning two years ago.

He said his second album was a major achievement for a person who owns a small independent record label.

“I funded the whole production and I hope this will encourage other artists here in Mthatha to work hard and believe in themselves because everything is possible when you believe in yourself,” he said.

Faku said he has partnered with a Johannesburg distribution company to make sure that his album is available nationwide.

“As independent artists, it is always hard for us to get our music out there but with a company that specialises in distribution, it makes it that much better,” he said, adding that the album was available at all digital stores and stores nationwide.

“Government must come to the party and assist the artists and make resources available so that we don’t lose our artists to other provinces because of the lack of support from our own,” he said.

“Some artists give up before they get their breakthrough but I always tell them to be patient. When you are passionate about something, it doesn’t matter how long it takes you to achieve your goal,” he said.

Faku said he had no plans of moving to Johannesburg but would make it as a DJ while based in the streets of Mthatha.

“I would love to see our municipalities supporting the creative arts industry because we are really doing something that brings hope and change to the youth in our town. It is a reality that our town is getting attention in the music industry through our dedication and hard work,” he said.

Over the years, Faku has worked with the likes of DJ Tira, Sox, Black Coffee and Kabila. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
