Night of laughter back in EL
AFTER a successful launch last month, the East London Comedy Night returns with top acts such as Tats Nkonzo, Schalk Bezuidenhout and Loyiso Madinga for another night of laughter.
The event, taking place on June 28 at Wiseguys’ Bar and Grill, is a partnership between the establishment and entertainment company, Splakavellis Management.
The Comedy Night takes place on the last Wednesday of every month.
Splakavellis Management owner Sheree O’Brien said the response from the first event proved that East London was in need for a comedy club culture.
“We were completely overwhelmed by the enthusiasm, response and turnout of the launch event. This only further cemented my belief that East London is in dire need for a comedy club culture.
“We look forward to growing the event with the support from the community and taking it to surrounding cities in the Eastern Cape,” she said.
Mount Fletcher-born comedian Loyiso Madinga, who brought his debut one-man show Born Free-ish to East London in December, said he was looking forward to making his return to the city later this month.
He has performed in David Kau’s Blacks Only comedy, 99% Xhosa Comedy, and Trevor Noah’s NationWILD. He is also part of the cast of SABC2’s comedy show, The Bantu Hour.
“I have been busy shooting the second season of The Bantu Hour and I think this one will be better than the previous one. I am looking forward to coming to East London with some new material,” he said.
Madinga said he has been working on new material for his National Arts Festival show, Broken English, which he does with Bezuidenhout.
Nkonzo will also be taking his show, Tats Nkonzo is Privileged to the festival. Tickets for the show cost R100 and will be sold at the door. Doors open at 6pm.
