‘Ring of Lies’ is tougher, darker

-

MZANSI Magic’s hit telenova Ring of Lies is back for another round, on July 31 as the ring gets tougher and the lies get darker.

The drama series follows the story of a bare-knuckle boxing (musangwe) champion, Neo (Mpho Sebeng) , who gets scouted on the dusty streets of rural Limpopo.

Neo’s parents disapprove of his dream to become a boxer, so he runs away to Johannesburg to follow his dream.

The series is set in Limpopo, Soweto, Johannesburg and KwaZulu-Natal, showcasing a variety of locations and languages.

Audiences can look forward to the arrival of newcomer Rendani (Fulu Mugovhani), a feisty, sexy musangwe fighter who defies her conservative father to pursue her dream of becoming a champion boxer.

Also look out for Mangaliso Ngema’s return to television, when he takes on the role of Vusi Cele – Sli’s biological father. Another big addition to the Season 2 cast is Anga Makubalo, who takes on the role of the charming musician, Buzwe.

Audiences will remember how Sli tragically terminated her unborn baby last season, only to discover that she and Neo were not actually related.

In Season 2, Sli is grappling with the consequences of that decision and is haunted by recurring nightmares which prompt drastic measures.

M-Net’s head of drama for Local Entertainment Channels, Lufuno Nethengwe said: “We are very excited about the new cast joining this season. The introduction of a female musangwe boxer introduces a fresh layer to the storyline and the opportunity for new romantic relationships to develop.” Tune into Mzansi Magic at 7pm on July 31, for round two of Ring of Lies.
