Gospel star brings Mercy Tour to EL

- By POLISWA PLAATJIE-SEJOSING

AWARD-WINNING gospel star Patrick Duncan is bringing his Mercy Project Tour to East London on Saturday.

The event, which will be held at City Life Church in Quigney, will see the singer sharing his story of God’s mercy through his new album, titled Mercy – The Price of Grace.

This is the first leg of Duncan’s new tour.

Duncan said the album was a reminder of the grace that God had bestowed upon the human race.

“The grace we have been given came at a price; mercy is that price. Jesus Christ died for us.

“It is because of him that we have this unmerited favour from God,” he said.

Duncan said he would also be using the show to launch his new book, which speaks about mercy.

Duncan’s love for music dates back to when he sang in his Eldorado Park church and community in Johannesburg.

In 1995, his music group took second place in the Shell Road To Fame music competition.

In 1999, he released his debut album, On My Own, and a followup album was released in 2002.

Four years after the second album, titled Unconditional, Duncan joined the multi-award winning group Joyous Celebration.

This gave him the opportunity to reach a wider audience and to grow in his craft.

Now, he has made a name all over the country as a singer and pastor.

In 2011 he won a South African Music Award (Sama) for best urban gospel album for his Worship in Colour release.

He was also nominated for a Crown Gospel Music Award for best contemporary album.

Duncan said his album would be available in stores from the second week of July.

“The book is already available and people will get a chance to buy one this Saturday. This is the first leg of the national tour – I am planning to go to the Western Cape, Northern Cape and other provinces.

“The message of mercy is one that needs to be preached often,” he said, adding it was through God’s grace that he was able to keep on with what he was doing.

“I am inspired by all that God has done for me and I want people to remember that mercy is the price of grace,” he said.

Other local bands that will be joining Duncan include Grace Dance, Prized, Leon Jaftha and Harmony House Ensemble.

Tickets for the event cost R120. For inquiries contact 083-449-0090. Doors open at 5.30pm. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
