R1m boost for NPO fighting drug abuse
SOCIAL development MEC Nancy Sihlwayi yesterday handed over R1-million to a non-profit organisation that deals with drug abuse in the Chris Hani municipal area.
The money if for Sakhisizwe’s offices in Cradock, Engcobo, Emalahleni, Lukhanji/ Nkwankca and Cofimvaba, which will use it for their Teenagers Against Drug Abuse groups (Tada) transportation needs and outreach programmes.
The coordinator at Sakhisizwe, Balisa Mtekana, said the funds would help them reach more areas. “We are extremely grateful for the cash injection. It will assist a lot, especially with printed material so that we can leave the areas we visit with information and also ensure that they are able to contact us when they need to.
“Another issue that we have been struggling with is transport and this amount will truly relieve some pressure.”
