No joy for SA musos at BET

-

BABES Wodumo‚ Nasty C‚ AKA and Amanda Black all walked away emptyhanded at the BET awards in Los Angeles at the weekend.

Nasty C‚ Babes and AKA were all nominated in the Best International Act: Africa category that was eventually won by Nigerian megastar Wizkid.

Amanda lost out in the Viewers’ Choice: Best International category to Tanzania’s Ray Vanny.

Despite their disappointment‚ South Africa was still well represented at the awards‚ with Pearl Thusi and Nomzamo Mbatha both presenting awards.

And it seemed like BET organisers were impressed by Nomzamo’s skills, with a BET Buzz tweet reading: “You might want to get an American work visa. We have a feeling you won’t be coming back once you’re done co-hosting the awards! Congrats.”

South African music veteran Yvonne Chaka Chaka was honoured with the Global Good Award.

Accepting her award‚ she encouraged artists to work together. — TMG
