SASOL League fixtures were confirmed yesterday for Saturday as it is played on a fortnightly basis.

Games kick off in different areas around the province at 1pm, with eight local teams taking part.

SA Football Association (Safa) provincial secretary Isaac Klaas said yesterday: “people should expect to see women in action”.

Klaas encouraged football lovers to go out to watch the games and encouraged teams to do their best.

“People should go out and support women football as they support mainstream football.

“The teams should play competitively in order to make a mark at the national championships whenever they participate.”

He said the province could do well in the national champs as it has quality players.

“We need to conquer that space because there is talent in this province,” he added.

In the coastal stream Thunderbirds Ladies will play Sophakama Ladies at WSU Ibika Campus in Butterworth, Birmingham City will take on Continental Express at Duncan Village in East London. Golden Stars will play Manchester Babes at PE College in Port Elizabeth.

Birmingham CEO Bulelwa Khumalo said they were ready to play even though they don’t practice as much as they would like to.

“We have the best players around so they live in other areas and we have scheduled gym time according to their availability but we are very much prepared,” she said.
