Playoffs battle for supremacy

THE SAB League playoffs continue on Saturday in Zwelitsha with the group winners set to gain promotion to the Safa-Buffalo City Regional SAB League.

The games started on June 18 in Tsholomnqa and last weekend were played at Mdantsane.

This weekend the playoffs will wrap up in Zwelitsha outside King William’s Town.

SA Football Associatio­n (Safa) Buffalo City president Mxolisi Sibam said the playoffs were going very well and he was happy with the games played so far.

“Everything is going ahead as planned and the standard of football of these teams displayed in the field is very high . . . we look forward to the finals,” he said.

The teams have been split two groups.

Group one includes WSU, Young Chiefs, Milan, Texas, Dimbaza Citizen and Ratanang.

Group two consists of Tomorrow Stars, Barcelona, Newcastle, Wonderful and Dimbaza Callies.

All teams in the fixture have played three games so far except for into Wonderful and Callies, who played two games each.

In group one, WSU and Young Chiefs both have nine points and Tomorrow Stars have five points.

Milan in group one and Barcelona in group two each have four points. Texas and Newcastle both have three points and Wonderful has two points. Dimbaza Callies and Citizen have one point each.

Ratanang has no points, after losing all games played so far.

Sibam said no one would go home empty-handed.

“The group winners will get trophies, 22 gold medals each, prizemoney of R2 500 each and all other participan­ts will get R500 each.”

On Saturday, WSU will play Ratanang, Young Chiefs will take on Milan, Texas will play Citizen, Milan will also play Texas.

Ratanang will take on Citizen, WSU will play Young Chiefs, Wonderful will play Callies, Barcelona will take on Tomorrow Stars, Wonderful will play Newcastle and Callies will be up against Barcelona.

The games start at 10am. have
